The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to help promote greater gender diversity and inclusion through various initiatives.

These initiatives include helping to build a barrier-free work environment for women in the maritime industry, gathering and analyzing data on the number of women employed in maritime, developing a database of expert women mariners to make public panel discussions more diverse, and to strengthen cooperation and share best practices between the IMO's regional women in maritime associations (WIMAs) and WISTA’s national associations.

As the IMO and WISTA recently stated, “These activities will lay the groundwork for further discussion on how a diverse workforce will be essential for a sustainable future.
